Aspiring historians often dream of stepping into the places where history was made. Thanks to a JTYAF bursary, a dedicated 16-year-old student from Ferndown Upper School is turning this dream into reality by joining the Year 13 History Department’s trip to Berlin.

Thanks to the help of a JTYAF bursary, one of our young achievers was able to join his teammates from the GBG Saracens Powerchair Football Team at the National Championships in Nottingham.

A student in her second year of an A Level Photography course has received a bursary towards a DSLR Camera.

We are thrilled to announce that the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) has provided funding to enhance the library resources at West Moors Middle School.

The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) was delighted to attend the Boscombe Youth Fiddle Orchestra’s Christmas Concert, a festive event that truly highlighted the incredible progress of the twelve John Thornton Music Scholars.

Since 2010, the JTYAF has proudly supported over 230 young people, covering not only the cost of fees but also providing essential equipment, ensuring that no one misses out on this valuable opportunity due to financial constraints.

We are delighted to share the impressive achievements of our 13-year-old award winner, who proudly represented England in trampolining at the prestigious Scalabis Cup held in Portugal this October.

Thanks to the generous support of the JTYAF, 42 cadets will have the honour of representing both the RAF Air Cadets (RAFAC) and the Royal Air Force (RAF) at the Remembrance ceremony in Achiet-le-Grand, France.

A passionate Year 9 music student at Ferndown Upper School has been supported with a JTYAF award designed to nurture her growing talent. Thanks to this award, she will benefit from a full year of singing lessons with an experienced individual voice teacher.

The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation has supported the Cornerstone Academy with funding for the purchase of three 3-man tents. This will enable the school to offer Duke of Edinburgh’s Award expeditions to a wider group of students, particulary those who may face fanancial barriers.

A 16-year-old Air Cadet from 149 (Poole) Squadron is set to travel to Costa Rica in 2026, thanks to the support of the JTYAF.

Our young award winner recently received a JTYAF bursary to support her ongoing training and development in the sport of dog agility.

Our funding enabled Cattistock Cricket Club to purchase a mobile net and an artificial wicket for the junior section, significantly improving their training and coaching facilities.

So far this year we have provided funding to eleven participants helping with expedition fees and equipment enabling them to complete their expeditions for either their Bronze, Silver or Gold Awards.

The JTYAF is delighted to support access for young children and families who might not otherwise have the opportunity to benefit from the unique experiences that Hayley’s Child in the Wild Forest School offers.

A 14-year-old Air Cadet from Lyneham Squadron will be attending a Remembrance Camp this November, supported by the JTYAF.

A 14-year-old student from Ferndown Upper School has been selected as one of only 32 athletes to represent Dorset at the National Schools’ Championships in Birmingham.
