Air Cadets Embark on Memorable Remembrance Journey to Achiet-le-Grand
/This November, Air Cadets from 878 Highworth Squadron will have the honour of representing both the RAF Air Cadets (RAFAC) and the Royal Air Force (RAF) at the Remembrance ceremony in Achiet-le-Grand, France. Thanks to the generous support of the JTYAF, the cost for the 42 cadets attending has been reduced, ensuring more young people can take part in this unforgettable experience.
The cadets will travel to the historic Somme region of Northern France to attend a special Remembrance Camp. This unique opportunity will not only see them pay tribute to the soldiers and service personnel who sacrificed so much during the First World War but will also provide a rich educational experience. Over the course of the trip, the cadets will visit a number of memorial sites throughout the Somme, explore Commonwealth War Grave cemeteries, and walk the grounds of significant WWI battlefield sites.
The camp is designed to deepen the cadets’ understanding of the immense historical importance of the First World War, both in the UK and across Europe. By immersing themselves in the stories and landscapes of the past, these young people will gain a lasting appreciation for the courage and sacrifices made by those who came before them.
