The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) has made awards to 40 young people from Ferndown Upper School totalling more than £18,000.

The JTYAF has recently providing funding to support a Young Leaders Training Scheme for East Dorset District Scouts - Explorer Section and also a District Patrol Leaders Training Course for the Scout Section.

Linda and Pete Thornton were honoured to be invited to the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service HQ at Dorchester for the cheque presentation to the first JTYAF Award Winner from their Prince's Trust Scheme.

In 2014 awards have been presented to pupils at Ferndown Middle School supporting talented gymnasts, musicians and dancers.  

Six Qualified Air Cadet Junior Leaders (QJL's) left Heathrow for Kathmandu on 3rd November, their destination Everest Base Camp at an altitude of more than 18,000 feet.

Ten cadets from 2391 (Parkstone) Squadron Air Training Corps are taking part in an expedition to Vietnam,  proudly supported by the JTYAF.  

A talented gymnast from Ferndown Middle School who received our support in March has been selected for Team GB.  

Earlier this year we supported Anya Kay to attend the British Bobsleigh Championships and we are delighted to report that she has recently been selected to compete with the Great Britain Bobsleigh Team!  

The JTYAF was delighted to support Caleb Gibson and Henry Bradbury who took to the ocean waves this summer on a voyage with the Tall Ships Youth Trust.

Christiana Cole has recently joined the GB Start Programme for rowing, based at Hartpury College in Gloucester, where she will be a member of the Elite Development Group coached by GB coaches. 

The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation was delighted to present music scholarships to three talented students from Ferndown Upper School.  

The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation was delighted to support the Dorset Fire Cadets third and final stage of the current European Exchange to Cherbourg this summer.

The JTYAF is supporting a trip to Ypres for eight Guides and six Young Leaders from Ferndown, by funding the coach hire for the day.

The JTYAF is delighted to have expanded to include East Dorset District Scouts as one of their supported organisations in 2014.  

Barnaby Dean, a Flight Sergeant at 2238 (Warminster) Squadron Air Cadets, will be travelling to Tanzania to take part in a community aid expedition and has already raised over £4000 to fund his trip.  

Ferndown Upper School (FUS) has been allocated an amount of £500 from the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) to provide a new Music Scholarhsip.  

The 2014 Dorset Fire and Rescue Service Cadets Exchange will this year be hosted by Cherbourg Fire Cadets and will be the third and final visit of this Fire Cadet Exchange programme.

Johnathan Brown is a student at Kingston Maurward College and is aiming to complete his Duke of Edinburgh's Gold Award by taking part in an expedition to India with the Dorset Expeditionary Society.  

Charlie Dalkins is determined to achieve his Duke of Edinburgh's Silver Award and will be enrolling on a cycling expedition now that he has been awarded funding from the JTYAF.  

Libys McGuinness is a member of the Weymouth and Dorset Taekwondo Association and she will be travelling to Dublin to compete in the Northern Ireland International Open Poomsae Championships.
