The 2014 Dorset Fire and Rescue Service Cadets Exchange will this year be hosted by Cherbourg Fire Cadets and will be the third and final visit of this Fire Cadet Exchange programme.  Cherbourg is twinned with Poole and Bremerhaven and the links between the three towns have made it possible to develop the programme which provides training activities to develop skills and expertise.

Five Fire Cadets will travel to Cherbourg from the UK and the JTYAF is delighted to support this great opportunity by providing the travel expenses for the trip.  The cadets were selected for their hard work and commitment on the Dorset Fire and Rescue Service Cadets course at Wareham, where they recently passed out after the twenty week programme. The picture below shows the Cadets in action at Wareham Fire Station using Fire Service equipment and procedures to tackle a 'fire.'

The activities planned during their exchange trip involve training in Firefighting and also discovering the town of Cherbourg and the county of La Manche.

The Fire Cadets selected for the exchange are:

Elizabeth Fryer Daniel Eades (pictured below - winner of the John Thornton Award for his progress and achievement during the course) Dean Vincent Jamie Cole Callum Maile, who was one of the cadets on last year's course in Christchurch and has been acting as a peer mentor for the Wareham cadets.

This objectives of this year's exchange programme:-

  • Promoting personal development through the acquisition of new skills in respect of Advanced Casualty Training
  • Acquiring a better understanding of how each of the European partners function and to promote future collaboration
  • Reflecting on the symbolic values of the D-Day Commemorations

We wish the cadets every success in Cherbourg and look forward to hearing about their achievements.
