Paul and Purbeck Powerlifting Club Take On 50-Tonne Bench Press Challenge for JTYAF
/Paul and his gym buddies from Purbeck Powerlifting Club are preparing to take on an extraordinary fundraising challenge for the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation. Their goal is to bench press an incredible 50 tonnes in just 40 minutes — a feat that will test strength, endurance and teamwork to the limit. In 2025 they lifted 40 tonnes in 26 minutes in support of the 40 for JT Challenge absolutley smashing their target.
To reach the 50-tonne target, the team will need to bench press 80kg a staggering 625 times between them. Broken down, that means completing a lift in slightly less than four seconds on average for the full 40 minutes. It is an incredible challenge that highlights not only the shear physical power that these guys will need, but also their determination to raise money for a cause that makes a real difference to young people in our community.
Every pound raised will help the JTYAF continue providing bursaries, scholarships and life-changing opportunities for local young people, helping them to develop their talents, build confidence and pursue their ambitions. Challenges like this capture the spirit of community support that is so vital to the Foundation’s work, turning determination in the gym into meaningful opportunities for others.
The JTYAF is hugely grateful to Paul and everyone at Purbeck Powerlifting Club for their energy, commitment and generosity in taking on this remarkable challenge. We hope the local community will get behind them, spread the word and support their efforts as they push for 50 tonnes in 40 minutes. It promises to be an unforgettable event in aid of a very worthwhile cause.
