John Thornton Pram Race

The inaugural John Thornton Pram Race was a great success.  Organised as part of Fete on the Field by Ferndown Rotary Club this event raised an amazing £1258 for the JTYAF!  It was a lot of fun and everyone who took part thoroughly enjoyed it.

We had 9 teams on the starting line with an incredible assortment of prams and pushers.  A huge amount of time and effort had gone into making both prams and outfits and thanks must go to all the teams for their support. Teams were :-

Ferndown Upper School
Jurassic Pram
The Lean Green Mean Machine
Team Ferndown Manor
Fury Road
Beyond Thunder Dome
The Road Warriors
The 'Other' Road Warriors
Yabadabadoo

The first team across the finish line was the Lean Green Mean Machine in Thunderbird Two, led by Royal Marine Richine Puttock.  In second place came Ferndown Upper School and in third was Team Ferndown Manor.  Best dressed team went to Kings Park Alternative Sports Club with four teams.  Fury Road, Beyond Thunder Dome, The Road Warriors and The 'Other' Road Warriors.  These four spectacular Mad Max Teams were organised by Pete Reed and they were also delighted to win the Wooden Spoon.  We can't thank Pete enough for his fantastic support of this event.  Runners up for the Best-dressed team went to Jurassic Park and Most Sporting Gesture to the Lean Green Mean Machine.

Huge thanks must go to Ferndown Rotary Club, Terry Cordery, John Norman, Richie Puttock and all the team involved in organising not only the Pram Race but Fete on the Field too. Thanks to all our JTYAF volunteers who came to help on the day, the Norman Family for donating the proceeds of their Nerf Gun Stall and Ferndown Leisure Centre who gave the JTYAF the proceeds of their rowing challenge.

Ferndown Rotary Club donated an amazing £900 to the JTYAF from this event which and we are extremely grateful to them for this generous support.

The John Thornton Pram Race will be back again next year so put 23rd June 2018 in your diary and get involved!
