JTYAF Founders Awarded the British Empire Medal

The JTYAF is proud to announce that Linda and Pete have been awarded the BEM British Empire Medal for their services to young people in Dorset through the creation of the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation in the Queen's Birthday Honours list this weekend.

A very big thank you to Linda and Pete for their dedication and selflessness in everything they do for the charity. And a huge thank you to all trustees, partners, volunteers and supporters without whom it would not be possible. John would be very proud of everything his parents, his brother Ian and supporters have achieved in his name.

In the past nine years the charity has raised over £500,000 and helped over 1,200 young people.

The charity began in 2008 after the loss of their son John Thornton in Afghanistan.

The award will be presented by the Lord Lieutenant in a local ceremony, with a Royal Garden Party at Buckingham Palace next summer.
