Ecuador adventure for young explorer

A young member of the Dorset Expeditionary Society is venturing to the High Andes of Ecuador this summer to increase his leadership skills ready for Naval Officer selection this September.

The group will fly into Quito, the second highest capital city in the world at 11,000ft, where they will spend intensive time acclimatising. They will climb several High Andean peaks of over 16,000ft and will spend five days mountain biking through the Valley of the Volcanoes and meeting the local people in the villages.

Using motorised dugouts they will explore the upper reaches of the Amazon river and checkout the jungle wildlife such as jaguars, pythons, monkeys, piranhas and alligators.

The young explorer previously travelled to Ladakh and Zanskar on the Tibetan Plateau. You can read more about his trip here.
