The Trustees of the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) have kick-started 2026 with a commitment of more than £60,000 in awards, to support the dreams and ambitions of young people throughout our community.
Thanks to the help of a JTYAF bursary, one of our young achievers was able to join his teammates from the GBG Saracens Powerchair Football Team at the National Championships in Nottingham.
A student in her second year of an A Level Photography course has received a bursary towards a DSLR Camera.
The ‘40 for JT’ challenge, created in honour of what would have been John’s 40th birthday, has genuinely inspired our supporters.

The John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF) was delighted to attend the Boscombe Youth Fiddle Orchestra’s Christmas Concert, a festive event that truly highlighted the incredible progress of the twelve John Thornton Music Scholars.
The JTYAF was honoured to be chosen as one of the supported charities for the recent Hearnes Ferndown Firework Event. This fantastic community event, organised by FunFest Events, was an outstanding success on every level.
Since 2010, the JTYAF has proudly supported over 230 young people, covering not only the cost of fees but also providing essential equipment, ensuring that no one misses out on this valuable opportunity due to financial constraints.
We are delighted to share the impressive achievements of our 13-year-old award winner, who proudly represented England in trampolining at the prestigious Scalabis Cup held in Portugal this October.
The Cardboard Campout Challenge 2025, hosted by Ferndown Upper School Sixth Formers raised a staggering £10,095. A testament to these outstanding young people and their commitment and support of the JTYAF.
