We are thrilled to announce that the John Thornton Music Scholarships will be funding one-on-one tuition for twelve incredibly talented violinists in the year ahead.

The JTYAF has supported a trip to O2 Arena for 50 students from Ferndown Middle School. By contributing to the cost of coach travel, this opportunity has been made accessible for all of the students.

The JTYAF is delighted to support two Explorer Scouts, with a contribution towards an International Trip where they will spend time at Rieneck Castle and then visit Christchurch’s twin town of Aalen.

A 15 year old student who is a member of Army Cadet Music has received funding to purchase a Euphonium to support his ambition of a career in music with the Royal Corps of Army Music

The JTYAF was invited to a Christmas Concert at St Peter’s Church in Bournemouth where the John Thornton Music Scholars performed solos and received their certificates and Award Winners Badges.

The JTYAF was delighted to support a talented young athlete to purchase a javelin and starting blocks enabling her to train more frequently and improve her performance

The JTYAF has supported Bournemouth Sea Cadets and Royal Marine Cadets with funding to purchase an MTA Leadership Kit to develop the cadet’s team working, leadership and communication skills.

A student at Ferndown Upper School who aims to work overseas teaching English as a foreign language, has received a bursary to cover the cost of a Level 5 TEFL Diploma.

The JTYAF has made it possible for a young dancer to look forward to starting her World Championships journey with a costume that will last her many years.

A 12 year old student from West Moors Middle School who has a passion for music will receive keyboard lessons for the coming year, thanks to the JTYAF.

The Army Ten Tors challenge is aimed solely at young people and the JTYAF is delighted to support 6 students from the Compass Learning Centre to take part. The event takes place every year on Dartmoor.

The JTYAF was delighted to award bursaries to seven students at Poole High School to help with the cost of essential equipment for their Duke of Edinburgh’s Gold Award Expedition.

The JTYAF was absolutely honoured to be announced as the winners of the Family Values Award at the recent Soldiering On Awards grand finale on Wednesday 16th October.

The JTYAF recently received an application for a brother (17 years) and sister (14 years) who will be competing in the Tap Dance World Championships in Prague later this year.

A talented 14 year old swimmer has recently received a scholarship to support his continued training at Swim Bournemouth.

An offroad buggy will make a huge difference to this little boy and the JTYAF was delighted to make a  contribution towards it. 

Congratulations to JTYAF Award Winner and Team Bath after taking to the podium in the U17 Netball Performance League (NPL) Tournament in Nottingham.

The JTYAF is delighted to support Gorsemoor Scouts to take part in the Asto Small Ships Passage Race in August. The group will be will be racing from Guernsey to Poole in a 60ft yacht against other sailing vessels crewed by young people.
