Bursary awarded to Rebecca Gould, 2nd St Leonards Guides
Rebecca Gould has been selected as one of 200 guides from the United Kingdom to attend the 22nd World Scout Jamboree in Sweden 2011. Rebecca has worked extremely hard to raise the considerable funds necessary for this trip, organising coffee mornings, car boot sales and even a Barn Dance. The JTYAF are delighted to be able to assist her.
Rebecca has been involved in Guiding since the age of 5 and is hoping to achieve a greater understanding of other cultures through this opportunity to meet other Scouts and Guides from around the world. Rebecca will be supporting a patrol from Sierra Leone to attend the Jamboree, extending this fantastic opportunity to guides from underprivileged areas.

Sophie
Attwell and Katie Braye receive JTYAF Scholarships
Two
Guides from Ferndown have recently been selected for scholarships
to support their forthcoming expedition to India.
In
July a group of 25 Guides, Young Leaders and Guiders will
be travelling to Sangam, the Girl Guide World Centre at Pune
in India. They are celebrating 100 years of Guiding. The girls
will be working on a community project called Doorstep Schools,
helping street children in Pune and Mumbai to get an education.
They will spend 10 days working in the School-On-Wheels, taking
the lessons to the children and learning about their lives.
They will also participate in other community action projects,
perhaps decorating a classroom or a library. This
trip is certain to be a life changing experience for everyone
involved, providing them with an opportunity to
develop a sense of leadership, responsibility, dignity
and courtesy towards other individuals and cultures, whilst
facing the challenges of educating some of the region's most
underprivileged children.
Katie
Braye and Sophie Attwell, members of the Ferndown Guides,
will be part of the group and have been selected for awards
from the John Thornton Young Achievers Foundation (JTYAF).
These two special young ladies will each be receiving scholarships
to contribute towards the purchase of medical supplies, specialist
equipment and uniform for their trip.
The JTYAF are honoured to be able to support the Ferndown
Guides on their mission 'to enable girls and young women to
develop their fullest potential as responsible citizens of
the world.' We wish them every success.
